We recently returned from a trip to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. TJ has congential scoliosis and we went in for a follow-up x-ray and consult with Dr. Sucato. The curve in her back is very, very slowly getting worse. Dr. Sucato stated that because it was so slow we could wait on surgery if we preferred, but would recommend she have surgery soon. After all the research I have done, we couldn't agree more. TJ will have surgery to remove the malformed vertebrate sometime in September. We won't have an exact date until June.
Dr. Sucato, Rey and I all believe this is in her best interest and will provide the best possible outcome for TJ. She is young, healthy and strong, so she should heal rather quickly and have no lasting issues (as far as playing sports, activity limitations). She will be out of school for a month, but will be able to get homebound teaching (a teacher will come to the house twice a week). She will also be in an upper body cast for the month, but will still be able to walk and move around on her own.
This is where everything stands for right now. We will keep everyone posted as a surgery date is set and other things fall into place. Your continued prayers, love and support are appreciated. Rey and I are very comfortable in the decision and trust Dr. Sucato with TJ's spine. More than that we trust in God's wisdom and healing for TJ.
